You need at least 300 yards of 80 lbs. In fact, 100 lbs tuna can take about 100 - 150 yards on 22 - 24 lbs tuna, but you need some extra line just in case you hook up a bigger tuna or line get cut while fishing for some reasons. 2. max drag. Find a hook about the same width as your jig. Single or double is up to you, as is whether you have hooks both on top and bottom. If you're not hooking up but you're getting hits try to look at where the teeth marks are on the jig and make sure your hooks reach that area. FWM0103. The boat runs are much shorter than the 36-60 hr trips. Granted you'll probably only catch blackfin tuna vs the bigger yellowfin but its a good way to learn. Best option for you will be the Finnor Lethal 100 if you can find one, around $99-$120. Cabo is a good second choice but watch the handle. Of course a better quality reel would be the recommended one but if you are limited by cost then any of the above reels should work.A 50ah Lifepo4 for 120ish bucks is what you want for that bait rod. WIll last a 4 day deep drop trip without recharging. Recharges pretty quick if need be. You will want a 14-20ah rectangle type battery for your backpack. Slammer is nice, but I’ve seen it fish side by side with the Saragossa and the shimano drag is much much nicer. Penn is a tank but the drag literally got smoked on a big fish, black smoke.
